Evaluation of the role of fundus fluorescein angiography and spectral domain-optical coherence tomography in choroidal neo-vascularization: a hospital-based study

Background: The study was conducted to evaluate the role of fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) and spectral domain-optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in choroidal neo-vascularisation (CNV).Methods: This a hospital based prospective carried out post-graduate department ophthalmology, SKIMS medical college, Bemina, Srinagar, Jammu Kashmir. All patients diagnosed with CNV fulfilling criteria during period w.e.f. October 2018 March 2020 were enrolled. Visual acuity pinhole test using Snellen’s chart for literate E illiterate patient, slit lamp biomicroscope anterior segment examination, ophthalmoscopy, including stereoscopic examination posterior pole, 90D fundus, Intra-ocular pressure measurement, FFA SD-OCT done these patients.Results: Diagnostic accuracy OCT observed sensitivity 79.1% (95% confidence interval (CI): 67.3-90.7), specificity 84.3% CI: 74.5-92.9), positive negative predictive values 78.7% 85.4%, respectively, 65.5-95.6) (74.8-93.4) diagnostic 81.4% 70.6-93.5), 82.31% 71.9-89.3), 79.9% 83.7%, 68.8-92.9) (70.3-91.2).Conclusions: is gold standard procedure screening ARMD detection dry ARMD, but more specific tool detecting early subretinal neovascular membrane also assess extent, location activity membranes. concludes that SDOCT highly sensitive identifying AMD, CNV, due its non-invasive nature no adverse effects less time consuming can be used as 1st line modality reserved cases where not helpful.
